The ever-evolving world of Fortnite might be heading in a bold new direction. This time around we have Disney characters, extraction shooter gameplay, and a giant change in the way the players play the game.

In a recent report, as covered by GameSpot, Epic Games is developing a new Fortnite experience based on the popular extraction shooter, ARC Raiders. This would be one of the most ambitious crossovers in the history of gaming, should it be true. It will be the first brand-new Disney game for Fortnite.

A New Kind of Fortnite Experience

In contrast to the classic battle royale format of Fortnite, this proposed new game will reportedly have extraction shooter gameplay. Simply put, players will not simply fight until the last player is standing; they will have to live long enough to access a point of extraction and make off with the loot.

It has been reported that the players will assume the roles of Disney characters, fight their enemies, and survive in hazardous environments and then make a tactical escape.

The gameplay is strongly inspired by ARC Raiders, a 2025 multiplayer hit that is characterized by the intense PvPvE (player vs player vs environment) play. In that game, the players collect resources and strive to avoid aggressive areas without losing all they have collected.

Moreover, in contrast to a Battle Royale game, where all players begin every session anew, extraction shooters enable you to upgrade your equipment and characters as you play, using the loot you manage to extract.

This isn’t just another crossover skin drop. This is part of a much larger partnership between Disney and Epic Games—one backed by a staggering $1.5 billion investment. Although Epic Games has laid off new staff recently, the developer has affirmed that the partnership remains alive and that there are games in the pipeline.

The Disney x Epic Games partnership is designed to generate a variety of interlinked gameplay experiences, and this extraction shooter is allegedly the first significant launch of that partnership.

If you’ve been playing, you probably know how mighty the Fortnite crossover ecosystem has become over the years (Marvel, Star Wars). But this move is more than just including Disney Characters. It’s about building entirely new game modes centered around Disney IP.

Reports on Release Window and Early Feedback

There are rumors that the Disney extraction shooter will launch as early as November 2026, though there are no official confirmations from Epic Games yet.

In response to a report by Bloomberg on these unannounced Epic Games, a spokesperson for Epic Games stated that it was not reflective of the ambitions of the Disney collaboration. The spokesperson said Epic has “aggressive” development timelines, and it has always been this way.

Interestingly, the initial internal feedback of the project has been mixed. There are even reports that the game is not very original in its current form. They hope that it will get better before the game hits the market.

Such feedback is not uncommon in games that are still in the early stages of development. However, it begs the question of how Epic is going to distinguish this mode of play from the already available extraction shooters like Arc Raiders.

Despite this, the rumored Disney extraction shooter feels like a calculated next step. It is also noteworthy that Epic Games is currently developing at least two other projects as part of its partnership with Disney. But only very little information is available at the moment.
