European football franchise FC Barcelona has joined forces with non-fungible token (NFT) collection World of Women to unveil the second digital collectible in its exclusive “Masterpiece” collection. The NFT, entitled “Empowerment” is a unique creation by artist Rhi Madeline from World of Women and will be available for auction on the OpenSea marketplace from June 26 to June 28.
Inspired by Alexia Putellas and Historic Victory
The artwork for the NFT draws inspiration from Spanish soccer player Alexia Putellas, who played a pivotal role in Barcelona’s Women’s Champions League semi-final victory against the German team Wolfsburg in April 2022. With an impressive viewership of nearly 92,000 people, this NFT commemorates the historic triumph for the Spanish football team.
Empowering Women and Non-Binary Individuals
Diana-Luk Ye, the Web3 Partnerships and Marketing Manager at World of Women, highlighted that their participation in the Masterpiece collection aligns with their mission of empowering women and non-binary individuals within the Web3 space and beyond. Ye emphasized the importance of representation and praised the second Masterpiece NFT honoring Alexia Putellas for embodying qualities such as strength, resilience, and ambition that contribute to success.
In addition to owning the Empowerment NFT, the highest bidder will receive exclusive FC Barcelona benefits. These include the opportunity to meet Alexia Putellas in person, a pair of autographed soccer cleats, and a physical chair from the Barcelona Stadium Spotify Camp Nou. FC Barcelona introduced their first NFT in the Masterpiece collection in 2022 with “In a Way, Immortal.” This inaugural NFT paid tribute to the late football player Johann Cruyff, honoring the club’s rich history and its devoted players and fans. Following its release, auction house Sotheby’s acquired the NFT for a substantial sum of nearly $700,000.
