Crytek, the studio behind Crysis and Hunt: Showdown 1896, has reportedly cut staff across two locations. As a result, Crytek layoffs hit the Istanbul, Turkey studio and the Frankfurt, Germany headquarters in early September 2026. Insider Gaming broke the story — however, no official confirmation from Crytek has followed.
What the Crytek Layoffs Actually Cut
Istanbul took the biggest hit — the entire QA team there got cut. In addition, Frankfurt lost staff across three teams: publishing, social media, and QA. Together, both locations add up to around 30 people based on Insider Gaming’s estimate. However, that figure is unconfirmed from Crytek directly.
Affected employees described the cuts as unexpected. Furthermore, the studio told them in early September and Insider Gaming reached out for comment. As of September 7, no response from Crytek has been published.

Who Is Crytek and What the Layoffs Say About the Studio
Crysis: Where It All Started
Crytek built Crysis in 2007 — one of the most demanding PC games ever made at the time. In addition, Crysis 2, Crysis 3, and multiple Remastered editions followed over the next decade.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 Today
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is the studio’s current live-service title and its most active product right now. However, back in 2022, Crytek also announced Crysis 4. Since then, nothing has come — no trailer, no team update, no release window. Therefore, whether the layoffs touch Crysis 4 development is still unknown.
Where Crytek Layoffs Fit in the Industry Right Now
The gaming industry has been cutting jobs consistently since 2023. For example, Xbox cut around 3,200 jobs earlier in 2026 with studios like Ninja Theory and Undead Labs moved under new management. Furthermore, Halo Studios and Supermassive Games also announced cuts in the same period.
Crytek’s around 30 cuts are smaller in scale. However, they follow the same pattern. In particular, QA, social media, and publishing are exactly the teams getting trimmed across the industry right now. As a result, those are also exactly the roles cut at Frankfurt and Istanbul.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is the active product. In particular, cutting QA in Istanbul raises real questions about how future Hunt updates get tested. Furthermore, fewer testers means slower or less careful testing cycles for patches and new content — and players notice when updates ship with bugs.
Crysis 4 sits in an unclear position. In addition, the 2022 announcement is the only public signal that the game exists at all. Therefore, Frankfurt losing QA and publishing staff does not help any project still in early development. Crysis 4 almost certainly falls into that category.

What Crytek Has Said
Crytek has not put out an official statement on the layoffs. However, Insider Gaming broke the story and reached out for comment. As of September 7, no reply has come. Furthermore, the affected employees found out in early September and described it as unexpected.
Whether Crytek follows up with a public statement depends on how much coverage the story gets. In short, studios sometimes stay quiet on layoffs entirely. Others post a brief statement thanking affected staff. So far, Crytek is staying silent.
Final Thoughts
Around 30 jobs cut at Crytek — Istanbul QA gone entirely, Frankfurt publishing, social, and QA also hit. In short, no official word from the studio. Furthermore, Hunt: Showdown 1896 continues and Crysis 4 stays in limbo. Staff described the cuts as unexpected and Crytek has not explained the decision publicly.
